HRH The Prince of Wales’ Farmers Marketing Initiative

This initiative is seeking to prevent further loss of farmers from the uplands of Britain.

Upland farmers are essential in maintaining our upland environment through which we manage water absorption, flood alleviation, carbon sequestration and fire risk, and keep footpaths and the countryside accessible. The uplands need animals to maintain them and this in turn provides Britain with high quality, traditionally reared food that often ends up in the commodity market alongside imported stock.

The HRH Farmers Marketing initiative aims to support farmers in collaborating to market their high quality, high value produce, and to provide consumers with the best of upland farms. Participating farms have to sign up to a set of principles including:

  • Stock are to be born, raised and finished within the area and reared using traditional extensive farming methods of husbandry.
  • All members of the initiative are part of a nationally recognised Farm assurance scheme and a nationally recognised Environmental Stewardship Scheme.
