Built Environment
The Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment is an educational charity which exists to improve the quality of people’s lives by teaching and practicing timeless and ecological ways of planning, designing and building.
We believe that if we can understand and apply time-tested principles, building once more in a sustainable way, we will reap improvements in public health, in livelier and safer neighbourhoods and in a more affordable lifestyle for families and individuals. We also believe that communities exhibiting these sustainable characteristics will accrue higher value over time.
The Foundation can assist communities in advancing the provision of low cost/ zero carbon housing and workspace in sustainable mixed use extensions to existing settlements. Its preferred methodology is full stakeholder consultation and community design workshops through the collaborative planning process of Enquiry by Design.
The Foundation is also advancing discussions with the University of Wales, Trinity and St David, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and other bodies under the patronage of HRH The Prince of Wales to establish an international centre for research and teaching in sustainable land management centered on the Cambrian Mountains.
