Developing Links - Pumlumon Project
Developing links with existing projects within the Cambrian Mountains- Pumlumon Project
Wildlife Trust Wales (Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust) has been leading on the Pumlumon Project. As part of the project, they have been working with landowners to deliver practical land management measures that will help feed into the development of prescriptions designed to improve the management of land for water, carbon and biodiversity. Work undertaken during 2008 included the restoration of 9ha of degraded bog by undertaking a program of 3kms of ditch blocking and constructing over 80 small scale dams to raise water levels. In addition to this, the project has been using Welsh White Cattle to graze a 16ha block of acid grassland to enhance its biodiversity value. During 2009, the project will undertake the restoration of a further 45ha of bog restoration and extend the area being grazed by Welsh White cattle.
