Sciencewise dialogue - Future of the Cambrians

Dyfodol y Cambria / Future of the Cambrians - Sciencewise dialogue

This public dialogue project was used to disseminate the findings of the Adaptive Landscape project. Sciencewise (Department for Business, Innovation and Skills) funding was secured to undertake public consultation in the study area to explore public perception towards the Ecosystems Goods and Services approach in the Cambrian Mountains, and the value that people place on those goods and services.

The project involved two rounds of workshops. The first workshops were held local to the catchments in the Adaptive Landscapes study area and focused on explaining what is meant by Ecosystems Goods and Services. The second workshop took place at the Welsh Government offices in Aberystwyth. It was designed to draw the stakeholders from the first round of workshops together and involve them in a more sophisticated discussion around the policy implications of the Ecosystems Goods and Services approach, as illustrated by the Polyscape mapping tool.

The mix of policy makers and informed members of the public provoked interesting discussion around potential future development of the way in which we pay for the management of our environment.

We are now looking to develop the process further with Sciencewise through a more sophisticated dialogue that, with the assistance of the polyscape tool, will try and assess the best fit of localised Ecosystem Goods and Services delivery against a range of national targets.
